Since we've covered the many ways you can make your move less stressful, more organized, and overall easier... We'd like to cover something different today. Sometimes, you'll find that you don't have a great abundance of time. Sometimes life comes at you pretty quickly, and will dictate what happens before you area ready. So, we'd like to go over a few different ways you can pack and move with the quickness if you don't have the luxury of a lot of time to get everything done.
First and foremost, don't fall under the trap of panicking. Take time to give yourself a deep breath. You may realize that the task in front of you seems overwhelming but, because something seems overwhelmingly impossible doesn't mean it is. We've seen this scenario before and trust us, it is possible. You can do it!
To ease your task, the first thing you're going to want to do is make a checklist. Having an itemized list helps, regardless of the situation you find yourself put in. Whether you have a ton of time or just a week or less... Having a list will certainly provide you with some sanity and also a sense of accomplishment as you start to work your way through things.
The first thing you will want to put on your checklist, is to organize the things you want to pack and move while separating the things you want to get rid of. The most effective course of action here is to have a “keeper” pile, a “not sure what to do with this” pile, and a “throw away” pile. The piles do not have to be neat but, they should definitely be distinct and easy to rifle through when everything has been sorted.
Before going any further, we are going to say this straight up and to the point. Be RUTHLESS in what you are going to get rid of. The more you can donate or throw away, the less you will have to move and, ultimately, the less you will have to unpack and put away once you're at your new living space. When presented with a new object you are uncertain of what to do with, we recommend going with your first gut impulse on it. Typically your first instinct is the correct one while, subsequent thoughts on the item may include doubt based on sentimentality. When you are in a hurry, there simply is no time to account for sentimentality. Toss things you are not keeping in a bag or box as you go (if you're not tossing them directly in the trash or donation box), so you won't fall into temptation as you go back and get rid of things you're tossing away.
To deal with your wardrobe, it is often simply easy enough to move things as they are in your dresser. Especially if you have a reliable moving company equipped to move heavy items. Trust us, your mover will be grateful in the end, to have less items to move even if the items are a bit heavier. For your clothes that are not in a dresser, wardrobe boxes and bags are probably a godsend for you. They allow you to put things away while still on the hanger and allow for easy organization as you're packing things away.
Another great tip to packing on the fly is to provide yourself with proper materials and resources for packing your items away. This way, you'll have everything on hand as you go to pack things away when you're ready.
Last but not least, be sure to ask anyone for help, that you're comfortable asking. Having a network of friends ready and willing to help you pack and move is invaluable to helping you keep your sanity at a tolerable level. Be sure to provide them with food and drink while they're helping and be sure to reciprocate when the time comes to get their home or apartment packed up and ready to move.
