8 weeks before the move: Once you're nearing the 8 week mark you'll want to start getting organized. Packing often ends up being a much bigger and more time-consuming task than anticipated. Going through your belongings and organizing and cleaning out anything you don't need will help make the process go smoothly.
While you're organizing, one of the most important things you can do to relieve your stress is to compile all of your important documents into one place! You don't want to stress during unpacking because your important documents are spread out in several boxes and you can't find them. We also suggest for your peace of mind that the box containing your important documents (and valuables!) stay with you during the move as opposed to being transported another way.
This 8 week mark is a good time to consider your moving budget and which of our services you'll need. If you need any assistance with this just give us a call and one of our friendly agents will be happy to guide you through the process of what services will be the most useful to you and their costs!
Around this time you'll also want to get your supplies. Boxes, packing tape, markers, bubble wrap, moving blankets, etc. It's a great time to start packing things you won't be needing in the coming weeks (like coats and sweaters or shorts and bathing suits depending on the season!).
6 weeks before the move: This is time to do things like notifying your child's school (if applicable) and getting copies of or transferring medical and veterinary records if necessary. It's also time to give us a call and schedule your reservation with us for moving day!
4 weeks before the move: Get packing, if you haven't already! If you didn't start, we think our previous advice to pack up out-of-season clothing and other non-essentials first is still the best place to start! This is also the time to consider your Internet, cable, and utilities. Are you transferring service? Canceling your current service and going with a new provider at your new home? It's time to set that up! It's also a good time to keep packing anything you don't need in the next few weeks!
2 weeks before the move: By now you should have a lot of items packed, but you'll certainly have plenty more to do! Over the next couple of week should have almost everything packed except for essentials (such as toiletries and things you need daily).
Moving day: The big day is finally here! Be present when the moving crew arrives and be ready to take an inventory of everything. Our team will keep track of everything going onto the truck, but we always suggest our clients do the same. Before leaving do a final walk through of your house, garage, and yard to make sure nothing is left behind!
Sometimes instead of hauling old furniture you would prefer to sell it or the new home owners wanted some items, so below is a list of some great furniture stores in and around Barrington.
